I had the best time visiting David and Vaila Leggat at their farm today to find inspiration from their animals.
I learnt about their stalking ponies, Shetland and white orient geese, their naming system for their animals, the different types of cows, the amazing ability for the bull to father SO MANY calves (40 to 50 a year) and which of them lose horns. Nothing is wasted…. sheep’s wool has so many uses and every animal is loved and cared for, enough to almost encourage one to want to transform into an animal!
It was so inspiring and humbling to see how far humanity has come, even from 40 years ago when ponies were used to carry paniers and stags.
I share a close bond with animals through my stories and to be able to learn how this bond was physically developed was fascinating.
