Having recently been to see Onegin at the Royal Opera House it got me thinking about the mentality many of us live by that Prince Charming will come along sooner rather than later and sweep us off our feet and until then we ought to keep reading books and dreaming.
I am all for the reading of books and dreaming as it is the way I spend a lot of my time but the Prince Charming aspect I am not so sure about. Despite the desire to minimize gender disparity I believe women are inherently programmed to settle and nest, it is part of our DNA.
It is the reason we are hesitant to launch off on our own enterprises, it is the reason we often compromise in order to be able to fulfil this nesting instinct, it is the reason many of us get married and have families. But, I believe it is also important to not to be afraid to launch off on your own, to follow your dreams and paths without waiting for your prince to take you down them.
It is only when you are fully happy in yourself that you can even remotely begin to find happiness with anyone else.
