Part of the real world

Since starting to write my stories I have been told many times that I ought to get a proper job and be part of the ‘real world.’ But what really is the real world?

Is it growing up, passing an exam, working really hard, getting a job, getting a new job, looking after aged relations, falling in love, getting married, having a family, buying a house, selling a house, going to birthdays, weddings, making decisions, sticking with decisions, driving a car… there are many boxes we strive to tick within our lives, boxes we’re expected to tick and boxes we put pressure on ourselves to tick. But, maybe being part of the real world is seeing beyond tick boxing, looking not at what we ought to be doing but finding something we genuinely care about, want to do as well as we possibly can and that, in its own little way, makes an impact and change for the positive to the world and people around us. The world doesn’t stop turning and moving and every breath we take is the generation of our own real world.
