Listening to woman’s hour today the theme under discussion was about the importance of play and having fun.
When children were asked when they play and have fun they responded that they play when they are not being told what to do by anybody. As we get older what we find fun generally changes but it is still so important to indulge in, whether that be a game of football or a walk around a garden is up to you but the sense of freedom and fun should never disappear.
No peer pressure or feelings that you have to or ought to do an activity but just doing it because you REALLY want to! At the moment our choices of ‘fun’ options are being pretty ruthlessly cut back and we need to start finding fun in other ways.
I believe, with a mental change of gear even the most mundane daily chores can become fun. In the immortal words of Mary Poppins “in every job that must be done there is an element of fun. You find that fun and snap… the job’s a game.” How much fun can you have today?!?
